Geili

Geili

Chinese Internet buzzword which means “cool,” “awesome” or “exciting.” Literally, “giving power.”
The Shanghai Daily reported that a Chinese neologism, geili,” which means, “cool,” “awesome” or “exciting,” had been granted the “official seal of approval” by appearing in The People’s Daily – the official paper of the Communist Party:
Geili” is created from two Chinese characters “gei” and “li.” Literally, it means “giving power,” but is now widely accepted as an adjective describing something that’s “cool.”
A test of a Chinese jargon word’s trendiness is if users translate it into a foreign language, according to its pronunciation. “Geili” has been transformed into the English-sounding “gelivable,” and “ungelivable,” and the French “très guélile.”
But it was the word’s antonym “bugeili” – meaning dull or boring – that first grabbed wider public attention after it appeared online in May in an episode of a Chinese-dubbed Japanese comic animation.

Why I Switched to Blogger.com

Wordpress sucks!  Why did MSN switch to this?  Unlike MSN Spaces, Wordpress is  extremely difficult to use.  I'm switching to blogger. com, which is much more user friendly.

The Girl Who Kicked the Hornets' Nest

Shari and I just returned from watching the movie, "The Girl Who Kicked the Hornets' Nest".  This is the third movie based on Stieg Larsson's novels about Lisbeth Salander.

I recommended seeing all three movies.  In my mind, they are just as good as the books.  Only the books provide a little more details.

On a scale of 1 to 5, I rate all three movies 5 stars.

My Chinese language assignment 2010-11-20

My assignment is to learn the radical and the root words.  There are 6 main characters for my assignment.
Each character is composed by radical and root word.

2. 疼 teng2(疒 + 冬)     冬 dong1
3. 痛 tong4(疒 + 甬)     甬 yong3
4. 医 yi1 ( 匚 + 矢)     矢 shi3   *失 shi1 ( different from 矢)
5. 院 yuan4(阝 + 完)     完 wan2(宀 + 元)     元 yuan2
6. 住 zhu4(亻 + 主)     主 zhu3

My homework is to write at least 10 times of every character( including the root word) and find out its meaning and also make sentences or phrases.

Windows 7 Themes - "Megamind"

If you have Windows 7, try out the new "Megamind" theme for your desktop. I enjoy it because it's brightly colored and cheerful, not unlike "Spongebob Squarepants".

Chinese language

English is not the most-spoken language on the planet.  One in five around the world speaks Chinese, outnumbering native English speakers two-to-one  -- including those in the U.S., Britain, Australia and New Zealand.
