超市【chāoshì】 supermarket.

芋头【yùtou】taro; sweet potato.

凤梨【fènglí】 pineapple.

Taiwanese has no Pinyin

Because I have a hard time reading the menus in a Chinese restaurant, my teacher recommends that I ask the following:

nǐ yǒu shén me shi zuì hǎo chī de?
你有什么是最好吃的?

剧场【jùchǎng】 theatre (where operas and plays are held)
电影院【diànyǐngyuàn】 cinema; movie theatre.
京剧【jīngjù】 Beijing opera.
京【jīng】short for Beijing
剧【jù】 theatrical work; drama; play; opera
戏剧【xìjù】 drama; play; theatre.
喜剧【xǐjù】 comedy.
演出【yǎnchū】 perform; show; put on a show.
出【chū】 go or come out

表演【biǎoyǎn】 perform; act; play; performance; exhibition; demonstrate.

nǐ kě yǐ biǎo yǎn
你可以表演

guó jù = 国剧 = national opera

歌剧【gējù】 opera.
( 歌= song,唱歌= sing a song)

确实【quèshí】 true; reliable; really; indeed.

相似【xiāngsì】 resemble; be similar; be alike.

不仅【bùjǐn】 not the only one; not only.

而且【érqiě】 <conj.> but also

功夫【gōngfu】 skill; art; kung fu; labour; effort.

脸谱【liǎnpǔ】 types of facial makeup in operas.

Memorize phrases, then compose sentences.
Review key sentences, first dialogue.
Ask questions in Chinese, but use only the words you know. Use English for the words you do not know.
